"Carnivorous Plant Study" - 11"x14" Giclee Print
High-quality semi-gloss giclee print reproduction of my painting "Carnivorous Plant Study". The original was made with acrylic paint, paint pens, and micron pens on multimedia paper.
This carnivorous plant study features 4 species of bug eating plants:
- Tropical Pitcher Plant - a type of carnivorous plant that lures insects into it's cup, which is filled with a sticky acidic liquid that slowly dissolves the insect. This provides essential nutrients to the plant.
- Venus Fly Trap - The beloved carnivorous plant we know and love! They have little bristles on the inside of the trap that trigger if two of them are touched in quick succession. This causes the trap to trigger and trap the insect inside, allowing it to digest those vital nutrients.
- Thread-Leaved Sundew - No, not a magical alien tentacle! A bug eating plant native to the bogs of New Jersey, USA. This is also called a fly paper trap, due to the sticky beads that attract and trap small insects. Once triggered, the trap will curl in on itself to digest the insect.
- Cobra Lily - This is actually another species of pitcher plant native to the bogs in Northern California and Oregon. Like other pitcher plants, it lures small insects into an opening on the underside of it's hood. The walls inside are slippery, and if an insect is trapped, hairs on the inside of the pitcher will force the insect downward to the bottom of the plant where acidic goo is waiting to digest them.
Nature is gnarly.
Individually shipped in sturdy flat mailer from St. Louis, MO.
